Incoming state homebuilders' president Jeff Click's 7-year-old daughter Alessondra asked him about his presidency.
"Does this mean you'll be the boss of all your competitors?"
He responded. "I don't look at (the position) as being in charge of anything, but a role to play."

"Tonight's an evening among friends." Click said at the annual installation banquet in January for the Oklahoma State Home Builders Association, held at the COHBA event center. That sums up the "why" as to why the state home builders association is so successful - the congeniality between who some may say are competitors.
Click said his association membership is an example of "serving the industry," as was so well demonstrated by Click's parents. His dad served two terms on the Putnam City School Board for 10 years, spending "countless hours for the betterment of others." Click's wife does the same, involved in women's ministry leadership and in homeschooling their children.
His model is, and will continue to be, servanthood leadership.
"Effective leadership starts inside with Who am I? and the most important question is Whose am I?'" Click said, quoting Ken Blanchard, author of "Lead Like Jesus,"
"Every man owes a part of his time and money to the business or industry in which he is engaged. No man has a moral right to withhold his support from an organization that is striving to improve conditions within his sphere," he said, quoting our 26th U.S. President, Theodore Roosevelt, carrying on that tone from the fall board meeting.
"The value of your service is your membership," Click said.
Click highlighted several areas of his team's upcoming agenda:

A campaign to market the value of the association to the local associations, i.e. what we bring to the table to be a member with an effort to recruit additional members.

Legislative affairs

BuildPAC, highlighting a successful 2012. Oklahoma was fourth in the nation in BuildPac support to the National Association of Home Builders. And, 70 percent of the BuildPac-supported candidates were successful in their campaigns.

Budget scrutiny, as the first phase of a dues increases is in place, with another contingent on those results.

Mark Dale, past state president and past Central Oklahoma president, introduced Click as a "young voice" who would often raise his hand to bring up suggestions several years ago in COHBA meetings. After, often, Click would tap Dale's shoulder with the phrase "I have an idea.... Can you listen to it a minute?"
The relationship grew into a wonderful mutual respect to give back to the team, Dale said. Despite their obvious different backgrounds - "He shaves his head and I comb mine" -- they developed a wonderful mutual respect and willingness to give back to the association.
"Welcome back, Grasshopper," Dale said.
We know you'll welcome our new president as well, as he begins leadership at the helm this month.
