This past week Oklahoma State Home Builders Association Directors and Members visited the Oklahoma State Capitol to speak to their senators and representatives about the various issues facing the industry. Everyone reported great feedback from the legislators and that it was even fun!
The day started with an introduction in the House of Representatives gallery. We then took the opportunity to walk the halls and visit with individual legislators. Of course, members scattered over three floors as they found their senator or representative in various committee meetings throughout the halls.
We then convened for a briefing from leadership. The President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Senator Brian Bingman was first.
He was then followed by Speaker of the House Kris Steele. He only spoke briefly as he had a meeting with the Governor.
So pinch-hitting for the speaker was Speaker Pro Tempore Jeff Hickman. Representative Hickman is also one of the authors of our legislative initiative on Impact Fees. The group was really pleased with his presentation.
It was a good day at the Capitol. This event for our association keeps getting bigger and bigger with over 70 attending this year. Make plans to join us next year. You can rest assured that your elected official wants to hear from you.
