Greetings HBA Members!
Thursday saw yet another deadline at the State Capitol. It was the day that House bills had to make it through the Senate and Senate bills had to make it through the House. Once again our list has shrunk!

The biggest news was the House voted against a bond issue to fix the Capitol. After hours of debate, the House voted against a bond issue and instead voted to send to a vote of the people the decision to vote on a bond issue. This was then promptly changed in the Senate back into a bond issue to fix the Capitol. When asked about why the Senate would amend a bill and send it back to the House where similar language was just defeated, the Senate author said, "I don't presume to know how the House will vote." My interpretation - have the guts to vote for it and fix it or sit down and be quiet. I know that may be incorrect, but that's how I read it.
There are a couple of bills dealing with property rights that we are still closely watching. The Realtors have been taking the lead and we have been trying to support where ever we can.
Until next week...
