Moore Association of Home Builders president Jessie Jennings, right, receives a Red Cross plaque for the association's five-year, $5,000 per year contribution made to the Red Cross.
As we approach the Thanksgiving season, we would like to say "thanks" to just a few of the various homebuilder associations in the state for their efforts this past year in "paying it forward" to their respective communities. One of the smaller member associations - Moore - came forward in a great way and awarded four scholarships to students enrolled in homebuilding-related courses at the Moore/Norman Technology Center.
Also, Moore donated $5,000 to the Heart of Oklahoma chapter of the Red Cross and gave $1,600 to the City of Moore Parks and Recreation Department to purchase 15 park benches. And, the association will adopt 25-30 families in need over the Christmas season.
And they have fun while they do it. A Chili Cookoff Night is scheduled this Thursday for the community to benefit the association. Hayrides, bonfire, moon bounce, horse rides and mechanical bull. Yee-haw! 5:30 p.m. at MK Barns, 4310 N.W. 48th Ave. in Norman.
Whew!
Hats off to Moore!
During the state association's fall board meeting, various folks reported in about some of their philanthropic efforts. Here's what they said:
-
Lawton Home Builders Association netted $1,800 from their annual golf tourney to donate to the Lawton Food for Kids
-
COHBA will be providing again for 50 children during the Christmas season through the OU Children's Hospital and the Cavett Foundation.
-
Tulsa, in conjunction with Joplin Habitat for Humanity, is building 10 homes in Joplin.
-
And not to forget the Oklahoma State Home Builders Associates Council, which netted $4,400 at the annual auction in July, up slightly over a year ago. Also, the Council brought in $1,700 from the Associates golf tourney this summer at Sugar Creek Canyon in Hinton.
In this tight economy, you ALL went above and beyond. Thank you.
