The Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association continues to make a difference for Oklahoma families impacted by the devastating tornadoes that struck the area in May.

Proving that home builders are a trusted resource in the massive recovery effort, the COHBA raised more than $70,000 and assisted more than 130 families who lost homes or other property. An additional 15 families will soon receive their disbursements as well.

The 2013 Parade of Homes featured 117 homes and seven featured developments during the annual event. Carolyn Schulter built the 2013 House of Hope. Proceeds from the home went to the Oklahoma Home Builders Foundation to provide funds for children's Christmas. Once again this year, the Foundation is providing Christmas gifts for children involved with the Cavett Foundation and Children's Hospital.

COHBA has made education for members a top priority in 2013, and has added a new page to support the initiative on its website at www.cohba.org. The Upcoming Education page features a calendar of upcoming educational opportunities, including dates, topics, speakers, locations and costs.

Around Central Oklahoma

Two members of the Moore Home Builders Association are providing input into construction standards for future homes that will withstand an F-2 tornado. Marvin Haworth and Tom Pollard with the Moore association are serving on the Rebuilding Codes and Standards Committee for the City of Moore, along with local engineers, architects and carpentry instructors.

The 2014 Moore Home Builders Association officers have been approved by the association's general membership. John Jennings will serve as president, with other officers as follows: Pete Jackson, past president; Brandon Waller, 1st vice president; Mike Barnett, 2nd vice president; Dee Ann Gay, treasurer; Cathy Lowe, assistant treasurer; and Shelia Haworth, secretary,

The Moore Home Builders Association and the Builders Association of South Central Oklahoma are hosting a joint Christmas party Dec. 13 at the Riverwind Casino.

The Builders Association of South Central Oklahoma has invited counterparts from the Moore Home Builders Association to enter their homes in the 2014 Festival of Homes.

The Moore Home Builders Association participated in the South Oklahoma City Youth for Christ dinner and auction.
