Q: What is the Oklahoma Home Builders Association?
A:

The Oklahoma Home Builders Association is a trade organization of over 2,500 members in 10 local associations statewide serving as an advocate for Oklahoma's housing industry and as a corporate channel through which builders contribute time, money and services to local community service projects and education initiatives. As an affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), OkHBA is part of the most influential and active organization representing the residential building industry.

OkHBA members include builders, remodelers, developers, suppliers, manufacturers, architects, engineers, real estate brokers, lenders, attorneys and other industry professionals.

Q: How do I become a member?
A:

It is easy and there are a variety of ways.  The easiest is to click here and provide the necessary information.  You can also visit the website of the local association you wish to join and download the application.

Membership is a 3-in-1 membership, meaning when you join a local association you are also a member in the state association (OkHBA) and the national association (NAHB) and entitled to all the resources they provide.

Q: What is a Certified Professional Builder?
A:

In January 2001, OkHBA created the Certified Professional Builder program. A Certified Professional Builder voluntarily commits to a set of industry best practices. These include carrying workers compensation and general liability insurance, building to required code standards and taking continuing education classes to stay at the top of his or her field among other requirements.

Q: What do I look for in a builder?
A:

Here are some important considerations in selecting a builder for your home:

  • Make sure they are a member in the Oklahoma Home Builders Association.
  • Visit their website and see if they build the type of home you are wanting.
  • Make sure they have the necessary insurance - General Liability, Builders Risk, and Workers Compensation.
  • Ask if they provide a written warranty.
  • Ask if they use a written contract.
  • Ask for references … then call their references.
Q: How do I find a builder in my area?
A:

The first place to start is to visit our Certified Professional Builder (CPB) page and begin looking at their websites (which are linked to our page) and begin your research.  You can also visit the local association’s website that is in your area as well.

Q: How do I make a complaint about a builder?
A:

Complaints against builders are handled by the local association in which the builder is a member.  Each local association has a grievance process and will tell you how to file a complaint.

If the builder is not a member, which of course we highly recommend you only do business with one of our members, then our suggestion is to contact an attorney that practices construction litigation.

Q: How do I advertise on OkHBA.org?
